Name It Something Stupid
No charity is perfect, no organization is perfect, but this—this is why I’d rather give my dollar to almost anyone other than the Salvation Army.

A reminder to give to charities who don’t tell those in need who they’re allowed to love.
The Salvation Army won’t be getting any of my fab, gay hand-me-downs this year.

The most good?

And another thing — you can have a section about ‘Homosexuality’ and you can have a section about ‘Human Equality’ but you don’t get to have a section for both.

Well to be fair, they could, if the Human Equality page says “yeah, we don’t support that either.”

A reminder to read all of the source that you’re citing:
“In keeping with these convictions, the services of The Salvation Army are available to all who qualify, without regard to sexual orientation.”
While the Salvation Army takes a position on homosexuality that I don’t agree with (in any degree), they still offer the same services to everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation. Just because they don’t support the idea of homosexuality doesn’t mean that they aren’t supporting homosexuals. It’s a position statement. While their position statement does go on to say that “The Salvation Army church body is open to all who confess Christ as Savior and who accept and abide by The Salvation Army’s doctrine and discipline”, effectively barring homosexuals from (yet another) religious institution, they do not deny the services they provide on the basis of sexual orientation.

Thanks but i did read all of the source before I posted, and neither the source nor your rationalization of it made this policy statement any less reprehensible.
Perpetuating this idea that it is “sinful” for millions of Americans to simply be who they are, and that their proper place in this world is to spend their lives denying and hiding who they are? This is profoundly harmful to millions of people. This is not some meaningless semantic distraction from their “real work.” They are doing harm by promoting that message. They are adding to a climate of hatred and intolerance that puts people’s equal rights, and their well-being, in jeopardy every day.
This insistence that we’re supposed to give them a merit badge for handing out some charity with their left hand, while the right hand slaps people in the face, strikes me as ridiculous. There are countless charities out there we can support that are seeking to help without also actively doing harm.

No charity is perfect, no organization is perfect, but this—this is why I’d rather give my dollar to almost anyone other than the Salvation Army.
